Froggie.
I started this a million years (approx.) ago and just halfassedly finished it. The lyrics are some Joanna Newsom.

I'm so tired of my figures looking so awkward in places. I had the opportunity to take a figure drawing course next semester, but it'd be a studio (three hours twice a week) class, and I just don't have time for it since I'll be graduating. Hopefully my job will still be sponsoring classes for its employees once I graduate.
And yes, she's holding a CD player :3 just cause.
Also my site is down, not sure what's up with that. Using Flickr for now. I've been putting off buying my own web space for a while, and I was hoping to wait until I began my thesis. That stuff adds up with part time wages :|
Anyway, happy Thanksgiving to all! Hope it was full of good food and family and whatnot.

Entry for the AIGA postcard contest. Well, the school contest anyway, the winner of which will be sent in for the real contest, the school paying their entry fee. I didn't win, which is fine since I threw it together in literally 20 minutes (including finishing the illustration which had been started a long time before and forgotten about). The watermark in the corner is not part of the entry, of course.

Trying to develop a style where the anatomy is simplified and slightly exaggerated.. but it still just feels off. The hardest thing for me is consistency :\

I had to draw something non-work-related or I'd explode. Scuse the horrible monkey-shit-thrown-at-canvas mess :D This is the guy from the last entry, only less pussified looking, and more mad-man-ly. I'm making that a word.
Names anyone? Make 'em dapper.
I'm falling in love with turn-of-the-century clothes all over again, unoriginal as it is. My boyfriend has a cabby hat like that and I think the ratty old thing is my favorite thing in his wardrobe (not saying much :P). I love that stupid thing. And him, of course.

You ain't forgotten ev-ry-thin
I'll tell it as I best know how, And that's the way it was told to me: I Must have been a thief or a whore, Then surely was thrown overboard, Where, they say, I came this way from the deep blue sea.
It picked me up and tossed me round. I lost my shoes and tore my gown, I forgot my name, And drowned.
Then woke up with the surf a - pounding; It seemed I had been run aground.
Well they took me in and shod my feet And taught me prayers for chastity And said my name would be Colleen, and I was blessed among all women, To have forgotten everything.
I sincerely apologize for the lack of quality here. I wanted to do this idea more justice, but it'll have to wait for a free weekend (which'll beee... 3 weeks from now?) Till then enjoy this shoddy job. That, and this was converted from CMYK because I'm an eejit. Working full time really hampers my drawing, especially now that (and until the end of 6 more weeks) I do it for a living.

He's a guy who appeared in a dream a week or two ago. The tattoo was much more intricate with the knotwork and the flowers didn't look retarded, they looked blown around and were a vivid red. but that's the gist of it. He looks like he could be Roisin's brother, and also echoes what I imagined the main character of Forever looked like.
I really need to take some figure drawing/anatomy classes. I hate how awkward and stiff my people look.
I'll stop ragging on myself, now.

Got bored and made a wallpaper. I liked the little logo for each pilot in GL, so I found this screen grab and modified Yoko's symbol a bit in Illustrator. It's hi-res widescreen PNG, and if pink's not your thing, try blue.

Spoke too soon.
I can't stay up till 5am and have nothing to show for it.

Not without a guilty conscience, anyway. Random character idea. The writing is just the song I was listening to at the time.
Also, I can post this publicly now that I gave it to the boyfriend as his valentine's gift.

... Finals have got me a little loopy. Apologies to anyone who thought this might be a professional journal. Here's what I'm really working on.
I'll have a bunch of crap to post after tomorrow evening when most of my finals are over.

A teaser, a request.

A teaser thumbnail for something I might just finish once finals are over.
Also, I have a request of you fine peoples. If any of you, or anyone you know, have a taste for writing, I'd like your attention for a sec. For a long time I've been wanting to try doing sequential art, i.e. comics. Loads of attempts have been made with friends with these huge epic storylines with crazy action scenes and stuff... Doesn't work out so well. I'm looking for a short story (several pages or a few chapters), with minimum to medium action content, to illustrate. So if you have confidence in your or their abilities to write, and wish to donate to this little experiment, please drop me a line in the comments or (fireflyofchaos at gmail).
This project experiment would be completed at a relatively slow pace considering my full-time education, but I'd like to publish the results online with due credits. I'm crossing my fingers for a number of responses, as this is something I've been wanting to try for a long time. The story doesn't even have to be complete, just a compelling concept that you would like to see brought to life. There would be no charge or other exchange necessary, just ample communication. Thanks for reading!

About a week (or two?) ago I passed in a magazine layout design for Publication Design. Click to see the finished product featured in our class gallery (it's about halfway down the page), along with my classmates' work.

I like how this came out for the most part, but it was rushed. The articles themselves aren't exactly fine literature, but I wanted to do something better than using Lorem Ipsum. I'm not happy with the readability either, but I didn't want to totally eclipse the image. Next time I'll be sure to be more typographically-driven.
If I'd had more time I would go back and do more with the Death Note spread. It doesn't look like much, but I did refine the image and vector the logo. I'll probably revamp it this winter for my portfolio. The cover is alright; I think I had a good choice in font, but next time I'll definitely put the magazine title on top and more noticable.
I also just finished a complicated vector project that you'll probably be seeing soon. Upcoming projects due before the end of the semester include...
- a packaging set for miniature four-packs of a California Pinot Noir, with 4-page brochure
- an HD-DVD box set cover, inserts, and disc label for one of four made-up features specified by my professor...
- a poster emulating the style a contemporary designer of our choosing
And a few papers. Wish me luck...!
